Character Backstory

When Jack was 6 he got lost at Disney world. His family had split up, half of them wanted to do the big rides and the other half wanted to do the kiddie rides. They had a meet time of 6:00 at the rainforest cafe, so when he couldn't find his family, he figured he would just meet them at the rainforest cafe at 6:00. He spent the whole day enjoying rides while his family spent the whole day looking for him. He was the only one to have any fun that day. The importance of this part of the backstory is that he has a very strong sense of independence. This will play an important roll in his exploration of the world of Mare. King Carl grew up with 6 older siblings. It was difficult for him to get a word in and the family had little time to give him. As a result, He became short-tempered and insecure always used to being showed up by his younger siblings. Now that he finally has some power it easily goes to his head. This is important to the story because it is ultimately wh...

Scene 2: Character Mission

Jack left the cafe feeling rather confident. He had won over his audience and completed the trick with style. He and his mother began walking downtown toward the game store. He shuffled the cards as he went. Jack was hoping to buy a new deck. They came to a crosswalk and waited. His mom made a quick call to his father to see if he needed anything while they were out. As the light changed and they started to cross, Jack lost control of his cards and they scattered in the street. He tried to gather them as quickly as possible but the sign was counting down. 5... The winds began to pick up. 4... He saved the 2 of spades just before it fell into a puddle. 3... He had all but the Jack of hearts which had blown under a car. 2... He walked towards the car hoping to reach under quickly. 1... He began to reach but the driver laid on the horn. 0... He jumped back and bolted out of the street. Jack frowned, he didn't like tricking with an incomplete deck. Oh well, he would be getting a ne...

Scene 1: you don't get it!

King Carl led Jack into his laboratory. "Welcome," King Carl said, "This is where the magic happens! No pun intended" "This is incredible!" responded Jack. It was a complete alchemist's lab and, judging by the gold from which the equipment was made, a very successful one. "This was where my kingship was built," King Carl continued. "When I was a clever young boy like you, I was 7th in line to the throne. I never dreamed of becoming king but I found my love here in the alchemy lab. Alchemy was considered at the time more of a hobby than a genuine profession. Before me, only a handful of wizards had turned lead to gold successfully and, even then, only a handful of times. I perfected the process and voila! Gold!" "Wow," Jack whispered to himself turning over a gold coin in his hand. "I would have liked to continue my studies but, turns out none of my older brothers and sisters wanted the throne. Neither did I ...

New NEW begginnings

There is a kid and he does card tricks. He gets sucked from our world to a magical world where, due to the prevalence of real magic, no one has seen a card trick before. Here is an experimental beginning to the story: It's a beautiful crowd up at 7:30 on a Saturday. The Crane Cafe was filled with a steady hum of good morning greetings and small talk over cups of coffee and hot cocoa. The last of the working crowd had since headed off to begin their daily labors so these customers were "early birds by choice". The young and motived mingled with the old and experienced. Wisdom was shared, Stories were told and the humdrum of the Crane Cafe turned into a joyous atmosphere for this moment once a week, but this week the cafe had a special guest. Jack Walters wore the traditional attire of his trade, a navy suit with a dash of orange lining the collar. He walked with an aura of confidence as his mother held the door for him. Jack was a 7-year-old card magician on a miss...

New beginnings

In thinking more on the subjects I am writing I believe I could choose a story better suited to the class I still intend to write the last story but it will go on my Flash Fiction blog rather than this one. Concept for Jack of Hearts: Book 1 Jack Walters is born into a wealthy family in a dystopian world ruled by the magician upper class. Unlike his family, he does not possess the ability to harness magic. He is hidden from the public by his family because he is a disgrace. Due to years of picking locks and sneaking about, he develops a knack for slight of hand and stealth. He develops an alter ego as a charismatic street magician known as Jack of Hearts working for BIG Street magicians are the celebrities of this world. They are selected from the best of an order of wizards and do street demonstrations of the high-level magic you will learn if you join their guild. Rumors have been spreading of a new order that teaches a new magic, Macro. Macro is a type of magic ...

Character Exploration

Quirky people in my life who feel like they came right out of a weird book: T: is a passionate film director who has been in lifelong pursuit of his dream and all seems to be going in his favor. At the age of 20, he has directed music videos, short films, commercials, is at the top of his class and has won many awards. He is a networking genius and easily makes people feel comfortable. His love life is so complicated it is almost comical. Despite all this, he toils with himself daily. His temper is sometimes short though he means the best granted my temper would be short too if I was raised in a house with 4 kids that's enough to drive anyone nuts. M: An 11-year-old who is fascinated with plants and generally being a goofball. he is a killer soccer player and has a nasal laugh that is rather endearing. despite his innocent demeanor, he is full of inappropriate jokes and it's always safe to assume his head is in the gutter. Q: A card magician and a Youtuber. he enjoys maki...
